Switch games are already out in the wild and available for online play on other platforms, and they’re already pretty good at matching up with the latest and greatest online games.
But now, with a few tweaks, Nintendo is adding online matchmaking to all Switch games in order to keep the platform fresh and fresh.
This isn’t the first time Nintendo has added online match making to its console, and it’s not the last.
The Switch already has a robust online community and a handful of online game modes, including two online co-op modes and two online matchmade modes.
But with the Switch Online feature, Nintendo has given players the option to play their favorite games from across its catalogue online, or to keep playing with a friend, just like they do on the Switch.
For example, if you’ve played Zelda: Breath of the Wild for a while, you can use the online matchmaker to get the best chance at beating a friend’s record.
The feature is available for all Switch online games except for some multiplayer games.
Nintendo is allowing gamers to choose to keep using their Switch’s online match maker or use the new Switch Online option, which requires players to be in-game to play.
This can be done for a variety of reasons, like to find new friends or to avoid a matchmaking conflict with another player.
Nintendo says the SwitchOnline feature will launch in the coming weeks.
